Home Made Cleaners
Store-bought cleaners are full of toxic chemicals that can effect our health. There are plenty of ways we can make our own cleaning solutions at home that are not only non toxic, but cost less in the long run and/or are also good for the environment.
Home Made Powdered Laundry Soap
1c. Fels Naptha Soap,
grated
1/2 c. Borax
1/2 c. Washing Soda
Mix all together and use 1-2TBSP of the mixture in each load of laundry. Use 1/2 c. or so of white distilled vinegar in the rinse to act as fabric softener!
The fels naptha soap is usually found in the laundry aisle or bulk foods aisle in grocery stores. You're probably better off to ask where it's located before searching for it yourself - you may be there all day! :-)
Safe Cleaners:
I know vinegar and baking soda can be used to make home made cleaners but I wanted to share with you some cleaners we do buy instead of making on our own. We buy Shaklee's Basic-H and Basic-G. The "H" is an all purpose cleaner and comes highly concentrated. Typically, I buy one bottle for around $10 and it lasts me a whole year (we're actually over a year at this point, a bottle might end up lasting us a year and a half!). The basic-G is a germicide and kills more than bleach but it is still better for us and our environment. We buy one of these a year, again it is highly concentrated and lasts forever. I buy them from here.
More coming soon!
