Home Made Snacks
I think you can make just about ANYTHING at home that you'd buy at a store. Try doing an internet search for the name or type of your favorite snack and see how many recipes come up. Then, try them! I do admit, they may not taste exactly like what you'd find in a store (yet some taste better!) but they're almost certainly going to be healthier. Our favorite snack is actually home made popcorn. I am convinced it tastes better than ANY microwavable popcorn!
Popcorn on the stove
Forget the store-bought microwaveable popcorn - make your own low cost, HEALTHY popcorn right at home.
We use 3 oz. peanut oil (veggie oil will work also), 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels and about 1 tsp. salt but you can use more or less for your taste.
Mix all in a decent size , stovetop-safe bowl. Put foil over the top and poke a few holes in it for ventilation.
Using tongs, move the bowl over your burner at high heat constantly moving so nothing burns. Once you hear the popcorn popping, agitate the bowl even more to get all of the kernels to pop.
Clean out under your burner before doing this - the heat and friction of the bowl over the burner is sure to catch anything underneath on fire. Though a big blow or baking soda can put it out pretty easily (been there...)
