Living From Scratch

Cooking, making, and doing things ‘from scratch!’

Published monthly, available in electronic (PDF) form.

Free introductory issue available for download (or request it using the 'contact us' form and I'll e-mail it to you).  Intro newsletter is shorter than a typical newsletter, but it gives a good overview of the topics we'll be covering in later issues. Special subscription rate for the first few months of publication!

First issue to be released September 2008

We were previously called "From Scratch" but have since changed our name to a more suitable title of "Living From Scratch."  Past newsletters will still be in the original title form and you may hear the newsletter be referred to as that in older advertisements.

Visit the newsletters website (link below) to get more details.

This newsletter will cover topics like:

  • Making the most of the foods you prepare – letting nothing go to waste from preparation to eating.
  • How-to articles on cooking, baking, preparing food, storing food, making pantry items and much more..
  • Meal planning, bulk cooking, cooking for your freezer, stocking your pantry, etc..
  • Gardening to make the most of ‘from scratch’ cooking, whether it’s a container garden or an in-ground garden.
  • Non-edible recipes such as homemade cleaners, dough and crafts for kids, personal care (soaps, lotions), dyes, oils and more.
  • Preserving foods in the form of canning, drying and freezing.
  • Raising small and large livestock, and making the most of all of their ‘parts’ (great for those who buy their meats, also) so nothing goes to waste.
  • Recipes for items you’d normally buy for your pantry or ingredients for meals, so you can make them yourself. Also meal recipes will be included, but the ingredients will be basics most of us can’t make: milk, flour, sugar, vegetables, meats, etc. The recipe will include additional recipes to make necessary ingredients. Recipes might include breakfasts, snacks, lunches, dinners, crockpot meals, convenience foods, condiments, dressings, sauces, mixes, desserts, breads, pastries, soups/stocks/stews, wild game, vegetarian, pantry items, ‘ingredient-type’ items, marinades, and so much more.
  • Recipes for pets will also be included!

The purpose of this newsletter is to show people how they can prepare healthy and nutritious meals using only basic ingredients, reducing our dependence on buying the food we eat, saving money, and preparing healthier and economical non-edibles that we can use for keeping our home, teaching our children, etc. Articles related to food and cooking will be included in each issue, including gardening, canning, meal planning, shopping tips, caring for large and small livestock/animals meant for food, tips for processing homegrown/home raised food, benefits of from-scratch cooking, making life easier for those who make every meal, keeping our pets healthy with a ‘from scratch’ lifestyle, making the most of living in the city while trying to grow your own food, and so much more. If you are living, or want to live more ‘from scratch’ this newsletter is for you!

The recipes and information presented in this newsletter are not geared for specific diets. I intend to include all types of recipes but if you have a specific need, a recipe request can be made and anyone is welcome to submit their own recipes, articles and other submissions at any time!
